ABOUT DOHAProtruding 200 kms into the blue waters of the Persian Gulf, Qatar, the "Thumb of Arabia", is a very safe and clean but not-so popular as a five star destination in the Middle East like the nearby Dubai.
Doha is situated halfway down the east coast of the peninsula. It is an important cultural and commercial centre and enjoys excellent communications with the outside world through its modern seaport, airport and telephone links.
Qatar is located halfway down the west coast of the Persian Gulf, and can be reached in a bout 6-8 hours direct flight from most European cities, with a time difference of merely 1-2 hours depending on the season. The capital city Doha is well connected to Europe by state run prestigious Qatar Airways, and many other international carriers.
Though Qataris traditionally sought their living from the sea, Oil, discovered in 1930 and now gas, has turned Qatar into one of the richest countries in the world on a per head population basis.
A late entrant into the tourism map, Qatar is, no doubt, set to be the destination for the future in the region.
Doha is the heart of Qatar, with most of the population living in the city. The beautiful city is filled with plenty of things to do, whether its shopping, clubbing, relaxing, dining, or whatever other activities come to mind. With its beautiful corniche which stretches out for several kilometers, you can take lovely walks by the sea and enjoy the sights of Doha's developing skyline and other sights the city has to offer. The city has a very laid back atmosphere, and any visitor is sure to love it. |
